Summary

Eric's not Boyfriend Material。 Or is he?

#1 Amazon bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills delivers an all-new, enemies-to-lovers sports romance, a breathtaking tale of passion, heartbreak, and love…

Skyscraper cheekbones, lush lips, and magnetic topaz eyes。
I’m talking about Eric Hansen。
Rich prick。
Glorified hockey star。
Thinks he’s amazing。
Yeah。 The Golden Boy and I are well acquainted。 In prep school he trampled on my heart and kept right on going。

Three years later, he’s living the high life with frat parties and puck bunnies at Hawthorne University。 On the other hand, people barely notice me。 I’m the nobody, surviving in the seedy part of town as I struggle to keep my head above treacherous waters。

The avoidance game we’ve been playing was working—until he rescues me from a bad guy and claims he wants to help me more。 Hello。 I don’t need a knight in shining armor。 This girl saves herself。

Yet, I'm not sure how long I can ignore the undeniable spark between us。
(It’s not even a spark; it’s a full-fledged, blazing fire。)

Can this hockey player prove he’s boyfriend material, or will this be a game we both lose?

I really enjoyed "Boyfriend Material", but it lack a little pizzazz compared to "Boyfriend Bargain"。 I'm gonna chalk it up the heavier subject matter。 Both Eric & Julia face darker problems。 It's also partly due to the tropes in each book - "Boyfriend Material" was second chance vs。 "Boyfriend Bargain" was fake dating。 I liked that they built their friendship back up before diving into a romantic relationship again。 I really enjoyed "Boyfriend Material", but it lack a little pizzazz compared to "Boyfriend Bargain"。 I'm gonna chalk it up the heavier subject matter。 Both Eric & Julia face darker problems。 It's also partly due to the tropes in each book - "Boyfriend Material" was second chance vs。 "Boyfriend Bargain" was fake dating。 I liked that they built their friendship back up before diving into a romantic relationship again。 。。。more

I truly loved this story, and while I hesitated the first 30% because it was much heavier than I was needing at the time, I’m so thankful I stuck it out。 Honestly Ilsa Madden-Mills has never disappointed me, and I knew this story would be no different。 I loved the character and plot development even as it brought in topics that are very much touchy into today’s world。 If DV or SA is a trigger, I do not recommend you going into this story lightly, but I will say it’s it tactfully and realisticall I truly loved this story, and while I hesitated the first 30% because it was much heavier than I was needing at the time, I’m so thankful I stuck it out。 Honestly Ilsa Madden-Mills has never disappointed me, and I knew this story would be no different。 I loved the character and plot development even as it brought in topics that are very much touchy into today’s world。 If DV or SA is a trigger, I do not recommend you going into this story lightly, but I will say it’s it tactfully and realistically portrayed in many aspects。 。。。more

Not bad but not greatI read this in one sitting which is good! But it was more cause I was in a reading mood and less because I couldn’t put it down。Both Eric & Julia were nice enough but I never felt I was truly under their skin and those lovely sparks you feel when a couple first kisses was just missing for me for some reason。Having said that I will continuing reading books by this author because even a 3 star book from her is better than a lot of others out there! Ilsa Madden-Mills’ Boyfriend Material, is a new enemies-to-lovers, hockey romance that involves a swoony ex turned possible boyfriend, which was a fun, entertaining read。 Boyfriend Material is book 2 in the Hawthorne University series, and is a second chance romance that explores Julia and Eric’s past。 Overall, this rating is for great world building, easy to read, and HEA。 Also, the extended epilogue was a great touch to the series, and I hope a next-gen spin-off is in the works for the Hansens Ilsa Madden-Mills’ Boyfriend Material, is a new enemies-to-lovers, hockey romance that involves a swoony ex turned possible boyfriend, which was a fun, entertaining read。 Boyfriend Material is book 2 in the Hawthorne University series, and is a second chance romance that explores Julia and Eric’s past。 Overall, this rating is for great world building, easy to read, and HEA。 Also, the extended epilogue was a great touch to the series, and I hope a next-gen spin-off is in the works for the Hansens and Morgans。 I reviewed an early copy voluntarily, and look forward to future novels by the author。 。。。more

Eric and Julia- second chanceEric and Julia had a brief fling in prep school but then Eric walked away without explanation。 Julia is the scholarship student that’s had a rough life and ends up stripping to make ends meet and pay off a bad debt。 When Eric keeps finding her in unsafe situations and comes to her rescue they begin their friendship to lovers relationship。 Drama, hockey and sexy。 Don’t care for the stripper storyline but otherwise a great rest of story with sweet HEA

2。5 stars。 This had the potential to be a great angsty second chance story, but it ended up being bland。 Eric and Julia had a brief relationship when they were in high school。 She was the new scholarship girl, he was the popular golden boy with a reputation for never being with the same girl twice。 She heard about his rep, but he made it seem like he was very into her and they had a real relationship…until he took her virginity and then ghosted her。 She then saw him with another girl a week late 2。5 stars。 This had the potential to be a great angsty second chance story, but it ended up being bland。 Eric and Julia had a brief relationship when they were in high school。 She was the new scholarship girl, he was the popular golden boy with a reputation for never being with the same girl twice。 She heard about his rep, but he made it seem like he was very into her and they had a real relationship…until he took her virginity and then ghosted her。 She then saw him with another girl a week later。 Fast forwards a few years later, they’re now at the same college。 He’s the big man on campus, captain of the hockey team, and she’s stripping to make ends meet, since her mom has become a drug addict who's in debt to shady people。 They’ve been ignoring each other for years, until one day he randomly rescues her from a bad situation, which sparks their relationship again。 The problem with this book is that it kept skipping over all the angsty or emotional scenes, and just telling us that they happened in retrospect。 For example, at the beginning, it started with they were in high school。 But, it skipped past the part where he ghosted her and she later saw him with another girl! We just get a scene when things were good between them, before the story jumps ahead to years later。 It just TELLS us what happened in retrospect。 We don’t see it in-scene。 Then, later in college when they slowly resume their relationship, the first time they get coffee together, we’re also just TOLD this happened in retrospect, we don’t see it in-scene。 That had so much potential for tension - the two of them trying to have a mature regular interaction, after their fraught history! But it was hard to even feel their chemistry, since scenes like that weren't shown on the page。 So, the result is a story that has no flavor。 It SHOULD have been angsty goodness, but it kept skipping over all of the parts that would have given it that! And it’s not like it even skipped over the meaty parts for anything good。 The entire first 30% of the book is pretty boring, with a lot of pointless scenes。 It's calling itself "enemies to lovers" but it doesn't even have enough flavor to be that。 She dislikes him for his past actions, but he's just completely indifferent to her, until suddenly he's interested。 He also never groveled for how he treated her in the past。 I don’t mind that, it’s not the only way for the hero to fix a wrong。 He does apologize sincerely, and he does a lot of actions to make her life better (like saving her from bad situations THREE times in a row) and show that he cares。 But that also felt too convenient。 If this story didn’t want to have a grovel, that’s fine! But him rescuing her by pure coincidence multiple times in a row wasn't totally satisfying to have in place of a grovel, since he wasn’t actively trying to do it。 He just kind of stumbled into it。 This story had good bones…。but it faltered in the execution, because the author made the baffling choice to gloss over all of the juicy parts。 。。。more

Ugh I was looking forward to this one。 It’s just bad。 So surface level。 I feel nothing for these characters and their love/chemistry/connection is not tangible at all。 It feels forced。 Also, there was no real excuse or emotion behind him ghosting her and treating her poorly - not even in a “bully romance” way。 He just didn’t care。 The writing is also painfully cheesy。 Trying to finish but this is not working。

This one was just ok for me。 I didn't really connect with either character and their relationship was lacking。 Several times the author would lead up to something in one chapter, but then in the next chapter we find out that the event it was leading up to took place off the page and the characters are then talking about it in past tense (and usually days later)。 I hate when authors tell and don't show。 This one was just ok for me。 I didn't really connect with either character and their relationship was lacking。 Several times the author would lead up to something in one chapter, but then in the next chapter we find out that the event it was leading up to took place off the page and the characters are then talking about it in past tense (and usually days later)。 I hate when authors tell and don't show。 。。。more

3。5 stars…。 This story had its moments。 I feel like there was so much potential, but there was a lot more telling than showing。 Like, I knew J was stressed out and struggling but I didn’t *feel* it。 I think more time spent on sensory descriptions would have gone a long way for me。 When E was sweet, he was really sweet and I liked his conviction。 J was very likable and had some power moments!
